simple ways to update the bathroom

90's  B-A-T-H-R-O-O-M updates

If I could count the number of bathrooms I have re-done.  This is my daughters bathroom. Again, we have 90's decor to the max, burgundy wallpaper, carpet around the toilet, Hollywood lights.  Truly the only time in my life I've ever considered when my last tetanus vaccine was, ripping carpet from around the toilet.   ðŸ˜–

The only thing worse than 90's wallpaper is 90's wallpaper that doesn't have sizing!  I added paneling to cover up the wallpaper aftermath of ripping it down. #1 I don't have the patients to fix the wall and #2 this is timeless.  I bought this peel and stick at Lowes.  Its been 3 years now and still looks great!  The glory of peel and stick, when you get tired of it, you just change it out.

Paint, new wallpaper...Complete!

(well, until it's not)

This is the closet off the bathroom.  I extended the shelving forward, adding a board behind and put a finishing piece on the front.

Wallpaper, peel and stick from spoon flower.  I originally paid much less last year, did not have enough and had to order more with a BIG sticker price.

OH CARPET....

Master bath update on the cheap
The biggest and cheapest impact you can make on a room is paint.  The biggest investment you can make to recoup money into your home is on the kitchen and bath.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a big look.
I made the wood shelves, cut and stained wood, easy, cheap. Painted the back wall a contrasting color and added new tile.   I love this tile from Lowes! Black and white go with anything. Tile cost the most.

Black and white tile: https://www.lowes.com/pd/DELLA-TORRE-Cementina-Black-and-White-8-in-x-8-in-Glazed-Ceramic-Encaustic-Tile/1000241509?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-flr-_-google-_-lia-_-121-_-floortile-_-1000241509-_-0&placeholder=null&gclid=CjwKCAjwoc_8BRAcEiwAzJevtQQKJzMx2SAMXYVKIHyVN_SvUY9aiOoNIE6sckNk0P3jhHmG0v_FnxoC_zsQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Paint, but carpet and boring.

Somebody update my tetanus vaccine STAT.  So gross, who does this?  Who loves carpet in the bathroom?  Who loves carpet period?  It harbors bacteria and what you sweep and wipe up on hard surfaces, think about it, it's in your carpet.

Epic tile

This is the master, peacock paint color, sea-green carpet color. The carpet was in pretty good shape when we moved in, but 4 kids later and a year and eek.  We had to get rid of the carpet.

The step into the tub, well I guess it could be handy. This was such a 90's decor move.

The flooring was .99 sqft at Lowes.  I used pine wood around the tub, spaced them out for a modern look and yes, the step is gone.  Good thing we are all tall and have long legs round here. Eventually would be nice to just rip out the tub and make a huge shower, but that's not cheap.  It is updated and I didn't pay for a complete remodel at this time and goes to show it doesn't take a lot to update an area.

COFFEE BAR

 -coffee bar-

This might be my favorite project to date. The laundry move is allowing space behind the kitchen for a nice size pantry, the closet pantry had to go.  The doors were always open, kids pilfering through food they can't see, dried spaghetti always on the floor under my toes. You aren't going to believe this rehab.

The area sits in the back of the kitchen, tiny bathroom to the right, closet pantry forward and old laundry room to the left. My initial plan was to bust out the wall to the left and open the entire space for a nice size pantry/coffee bar integration.  My 10 year old (Viv) called it, yep, a water line in the wall.  Plan B.  I left the wall and used the water line to put in a pot filler for the coffee maker.  I think St. Patrick thought this was a ridiculous idea at first, asking why we can't walk 20feet to get water, guess who loves it now.

Cost:

  • planking from menards was the most expensive part of the projecthttps://www.menards.com/main/paint/paneling-planking/planking/c-8178.htm?queryType=allItems&Spec_Style_facet=Shiplap
  • quartz countertop was only $250.  I contacted a guy off local social media, I did have to drive to get it, but well worth the money saved. Oh and it was heavy AF.
  • faux brick paneling left over from my previous project
  • cabinets are wood, pre-made from Menards. the top cabinets are suppose to sit side by side, I like the stacked look better and get more space this way
  • wine rack, built in and custom that I made with left over wood
  • tile- marble from Loweshttps://www.lowes.com/pd/Anatolia-Tile-Bianco-Polished-12-in-x-12-in-Polished-Herringbone-Marble-Look-Wall-Tile/1001069860?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-flr-_-google-_-lia-_-230-_-walltile-_-1001069860-_-0&placeholder=null&gclid=CjwKCAjw_sn8BRBrEiwAnUGJDpD56tK0Y3F8o_WpgXzRD-NROkI1gCsPuMJzYS8tth8nqgDvQ7W0cRoCuckQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  • fridge is not a countertop, much cheaper and I pulled a cabinet from another part of our kitchen where it use to sit
  • under counter lighting from Home Depot and wired to a switch
  • pot filler, ordered off AMAZON https://www.amazon.com/APPASO-Filler-Folding-Extending-Kitchen/dp/B084YWJM87/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=appaso+pot+filler&qid=1603459903&sr=8-5

The road to a better use of space...
It all starts with a vision.
literally drew this out on my iPhone with mark up

Trial for the pot filler and pex water line.

This ceiling...wow!

custom wine rack
I needed something to fit along side of the cabinets and this is what I came up with.

Outside of the box, I was struggling on how to get the fridge to look like a build in.  I had purchased another cabinet and it fit perfect. My first vision did no have the beverage fridge in that area.

Laundry Room Relocation

Laundry Room Relocation

Our house was built in 1997 and was in no way designed by any person who does laundry.  No-one would choose to carry baskets of dirty and clean laundry up and down stairs and why this was even a trend is beyond me.  I have spent countless hours hauling laundry from the main floor behind the kitchen to the upstairs where the majority of our laundry lives.  I mean, I did appreciate the laundry shoot from my daughters bathroom, thanks builder.

Our bedroom is stupid big, I do love it and it allowed me to add laundry to this area.  I spent about a three years plotting this move. I taped out dimensions of the washer and dryer on the floor in several areas trying the find the right spot without spending thousand of dollars on the move.   The most logical area was where I could get water, a drain and electricity down 2 more floors to the electrical box, so the laundry was moved to our bedroom, in our bedroom.  I figure that its my house and if someone, someday wants it moved back down to ridiculous land then they can do it.

Bedroom wall with water line, yes!
This to this....laundry room and desk area.

Free stencil, never gets old

This might actually be the original recipe stencil from all my other projects.

St. Patrick hard at work.

The "Brick" Wall

He really is a Saint.

Covered with dry wall mud, its cheap and looks great!

The cut outs are the hardest part.  I used liquid nail and then brad nails to secure it to the wall.  I am obsessed with this look and have already used the faux brick in another area.

So, now I have laundry upstairs!
