Drab....to Fab! Chair OVERHAUL!

My friend Traci and I have decided we are going to take each others fall family pics this year.  We were looking for some fun chairs to use in our outdoor pics.  This is my chair overhaul from some chairs that came out of an old barn.

F A U X your door!

Faux sure way to upgrade your home!

Cost only $52 and about 8 hours in time spent.

I also faux painted my front door to match.

How to do it:

1.  Power-wash or clean the surface with water and soap.
2. Warn your neighbors...the base coat for this project is penny orange.
3. Buy paint.  I use Sherwin Williams exterior satin (latex, not oil based).  1 quart of each color:  Copper Mountain, Sable and Java.
4. Paint the entire surface with Copper Mountain.

5. Wait a day and then begin the faux process.  At every crevice or detail begin adding a dry brush of Sable, this will add the 3-d look.  This process will take the most amount of time.

6. Repeat process with Java color after finished with the Sable.

7. I also get a little bowl of water.  Dip a rag in the paint and then the water and wipe down the entire door for a darker, finished look.

I also realized that those awful moon shaped inserts in the garage door windows just pop out.  SCORE!!!

Now the only thing left to do is add hardware for the carriage door look.  I will post pics when that is done.

Wallpaper is back...only without the "wallpaper"

All you need is time and left over paint.  I really wanted to do this in my living room, but wanted to try it on a smaller wall.  Evie's room was perfect and ready to be accented with white (paint I already had).  The pattern I used was from another blog:  http://jonesdesigncompany.com/decorate/painted-wallpaper-a-tutorial

Design on a dime....nope, it didn't even cost a dime.  Completely free project!

I think it turned out beautiful and I can't wait to do this somewhere else in my house.

ONE-derful day in ONE-derland

yo viv turns 1!

WOW!  this year went by so fast.  Hard to believe an entire year has passed. We are so blessed to have her in our life and are thankful every day that God spared her from the tragedy that we all felt with the passing of her twin.  

So, Vivians birth day is truly a milestone and celebration of life.

I took the pictures with the help of my friend Kori.  Uploaded the pic to a photo editing program, typed in her invite and sent them off to www.mpix.com.  This was a much cheaper way to print invites and professional quality paper.  I paid $7.00 for 30 invites, much cheaper that shutterfly.

After many phone calls and crazy expensive prices (up to $350), I decided to give cake decorating a go. Maybe my cake isn't a $350 cake, but I think it turned out pretty cool.  I did pay someone to bake the cake, thank you Laura Mosby!  I made the little Alice in Wonderland figures out of fondant.  The cheapest prices for fondant were at Walmart, however it was a better price at Hobby Lobby since I took two 40% off coupons and my mom.   

Yes, I attempted to make my own fondant...totally worth buying.

We had a wonderful day with friends and family and looking forward to another year watching her grow and develop her "tude".
